Planning a Sri Lankan Tamil & American cross-cultural wedding in New York City

With backgrounds in television and film, Subashiny and Patrick naturally approached their wedding with a storyteller’s eye. They envisioned a celebration that felt cinematic, immersive, and unmistakably New York.

The planner’s perspective

Designing for two professionals in the film and television industry meant the bar for “storytelling” was incredibly high. The challenge was to take an iconic, recognizable New York City venue like 620 Loft & Garden, and make it feel like a private, lived-in set rather than a tourist landmark. This wedding was a true collaboration between the couple’s creative vision and our logistical execution, proving that even in the middle of Manhattan, you can create a world that feels entirely your own.

A Cinematic First Look at the Morgan Library

For two storytellers every frame of the wedding had to carry the weight of a well-composed scene. We began the narrative in the quiet, monumental halls of the Morgan Library. For a couple who builds worlds for a living, it was the only stage grand enough to begin their own.

A Dramatic Jewel-Toned Reception

The reception took place above the city at 620 Loft & Garden, where the design moved away from traditional wedding brights in favor of a moody, jewel-toned palette. Emerald velvet linens layered with plum florals, figs, and deep red fruits created richly textured tablescapes that felt dramatic yet intimate against the rooftop skyline. The deep greens and plum hues transformed the space into a setting that felt almost theatrical

An Intimate Rooftop Dinner Overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Dinner took place under the open night sky, with soft candlelight illuminating the tables as guests gathered for an intimate rooftop meal. In the background, the glowing lights of St. Patrick’s Cathedral added a striking New York backdrop to the evening.

Interactive Storytelling and Live Performances

Entertainment played a central role in the evening, unfolding in thoughtful layers that reflected the couple’s love of performance and storytelling. There was a live performance of a tabla and flute duo, setting an intimate and atmospheric tone as guests settled in for dinner. In a playful nod to their love of film and performance, the dinner turned into an interactive experience.

Professional theater actors arrived in costume to lead guests through an interactive murder mystery, filling the room with a playful suspense. As the night continued, the energy shifted once again when the live band took the stage.

It was even more memorable when Patrick himself joined in for a special performance, bringing the celebration to a lively and unforgettable close.
